ANDY SUMMERS RECEIVES HONORARY DOCTOR OF ARTS DEGREE FROM BOURNEMOUTH UNIVERSITY

The BBC reported how Andy Summers has received an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from Bournemouth University in early November. Summers, a multi-Grammy and Brit award winner who now lives in California in the United States, used the US presidential election to offer advice to graduates. “You are graduating at a very propitious moment in the world,” he said. “Barack Obama’s election has finally thrown a beautiful ray of light into the world so I think you’re going forth at a great time.” He added: “It’s very special for me to come back to the place where I started and to receive this award.”
Andy Summers spent his teenage years in Bournemouth before achieving huge success as the guitarist in the Police. He told the Daily Echo: “It’s a very significant award – all my early thoughts on a career came from Bournemouth – it’s good to come back.” He said: “I feel a bit of a fraud because my wife is a real doctor and it took her seven years of study! “It’s very inspiring – so many of these young people see journalism as a valuable profession.”
