The winners of the 50th Ivor Novello Awards were announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday, May 26, 2005. The Ivors – presented annually by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters – honor the best British songwriters, composers and music. Bob Geldof and his Band Aid 20 co-organiser Midge Ure picked up the Best Selling UK single prize gong for Do They Know It’s Christmas?.
During the event, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure revealed they are planning a major pop concert this summer – but insist that it should not be called “Live Aid 2”, which will take place in the British capital’s Hyde Park. As Sting presented Ure and Geldof with their Novello trophy, he confirmed he would be joining the superstar line-up, which is rumoured to include U2, Madonna, Paul McCartney and a Spice Girls reunion.
Whatever it is, Sting said he would take part: “Bob called me up and said I was doing it. He doesn’t ask you, he tells you.”
Apparently the concert will take place on July 2nd.
