Stewart Copeland and Sting formed The Police in 1977. Pairing up with guitarist Henry Padovani, the trio played in London pubs. Almost immediately, Henry Padovani left the band and was replaced by Andy Summers. Now, we all know this, however there is also Mike Howlett who got Sting, Stewart and Andy together at the Virtual Earth Studios in Swiss Cottage in early May 1977 (the outcome of this exercise can be heard on the album Strontium 90). This same Mike -now a Welsh university lecturer- has been selected to lead Britain’s pop producers.
