Todays winner of the Kentucky Derby was 50 to 1 longshot Giacomo. The horse is named after Stings 9-year old son. The personal connection between the horses owner and Sting that resulted in this honour is as following (thanks Stephen Eson):
Giacomo is owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, who bred him in Kentucky. Jerry Moss founded A&M Records with Herb Alpert and has produced recordings for many top starts, among them Sting.
The victory was a sweet score for owners Jerry and Ann Moss of Los Angeles. He founded A&M Records with trumpeter Herb Alpert of Tijuana Brass fame. The ’70s pop duo the Carpenters were one of the former label’s biggest acts.
