Since its appearance on Itunes, Catharsis and the Humdrum’s acoustic version of The Police’s “Every Breath You Take” has managed to become not only the album’s most downloaded track–but the label’s as well. According to Idols of the Marketplace co-owner James Harris, “It’s almost embarrassing to say, but it’s outsold every other track on every album we’ve released–combined. It’s been a runaway hit for us.”
The popularity of Itunes has allowed many labels to better understand which particular tracks on an album are getting the most response from fans. Says Harris, “It’s a wonderful tool for us to gauge what people like most about a given album. In this case, Catharsis and the Humdrum seem to have hit a nerve–which is as much to their credit as it is to Sting and the Police for writing a song that reflects its title, in the sense that it never seems to lose its hold on people.”
