The Daily Mail reports today that Sting and Stewart Copeland have fallen out over rights to the group’s hit songs. Sting is apparently outraged at Stewart’s efforts to obtain the rights to hits such as “Roxanne”, “Can’t Stand Losing You”, “Walking On The Moon” and “Every Breath You Take”, so he can re-mix and re-release them. While this initiative has been appluaded by fans worldwide, Sting who wrote the songs and controls the rights, told during the Sundance Film festival that there was no way Copeland would ever get his hands on his songs.
Stewart told the audience after the screening of “Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out” that he felt entitled to the songs because he was as much a part of The Police as Sting. On his forum, Stewart Copeland denies any such “fight” is taking place.
