Environmental campaigner Trudie Styler has defended her decision to fly a beauty expert from New York to Washington, D.C. on a private jet — to look after her hair and make-up for a White House dinner. Styler co-founded the Rainforest Foundation to champion green issues. But she has risked criticism after admitting she and an entourage of eight jetted to the White House Correspondents Association Dinner on Saturday by private plane. The team included her hair stylist Antonio Prieto, who is based in Manhattan. A rep for Styler tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, “The stylist was added to a previous scheduled flight to DC and flew back commercially.” And Styler adds: “Yes, I do take planes. My life is to travel and my life is also to speak out about the horrors of an environment that is being abused at the hands of oil companies.”
Sting instead took a commercial flight from London to the Washington DC event – and insiders stress Trudie could just have easily ‘taken the shuttle or an energy-saving Amtrak train’ rather than a jet for her beauty team.
Last year it was reported that Sting’s star-studded charity concert for the Rainforest Foundation in 2006 donated only 41 percent of the proceeds to tree-saving programs. Well-run charities typically spend 75 per cent on programmes.
