As we reported before, Stewart Copeland will be at this years La Jolla Music Society SummerFest where he will perform in premiere “Retail Therapy/La Jolla”, a chamber music piece. Stewart commented that “that piece was written, actually, on the road during the Police reunion tour, in hotels. It’s based on a little tune that I wrote and was never used for a film years ago, “She’s Having a Baby”. I think the whole scene was where they go shopping, a cheerful little scene of suburban bliss that seemed perfect for the ensemble that we’re working with here.” Also on the program are three other Copeland pieces. In “Celeste”, he’ll serve as drummer and be joined by violinist Kyoko Takezawa and pianist Joyce Yang. In “Gene Pool”, scored for percussion, he and festival percussionist David Cossin will team with red fish blue fish, UCSDs masterful percussion ensemble. And “Kaya” features a chamber ensemble that includes winds, strings and percussion.
