Sting is urging youngsters to follow in his footsteps and learn to play a musical instrument at a young age. Hes also appealing to teachers to encourage and support young people who show an interest in music, adding it can lead to a successful career. He spoke out following the release of a new survey which reveals 70% of adults regret not learning to play a musical instrument as a child. The study was carried out by PRS for Music, the organisation that collects royalties on behalf of composers and songwriters, and the results were published yesterday.
Sting, a former teacher himself and PRS for Music member, said: “If you get the chance to learn an instrument when youre young, take it, as who knows where it will lead you? Music and songwriting can be great and rewarding careers. I hope more young people choose this path and teachers encourage them.”
