MONEY FOR NOTHING BANNED IN CANADA

Money For Nothing, a 25-year-old Dire Straits song written by Mark Knopfler and Sting, has been ruled too offensive for Canadian radio play. The reason: a listener to radio station CHOZ-FM in St. John’s, Newfoundland complained that the 1985 song includes the word “faggot.” The offending Dire Straits ‘Money For Nothing’ lyrics are “See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup, Yeah buddy that’s his own hair. That little faggot got his own jet airplane. That little faggot he’s a millionaire.” The CBSC ruled that ‘Money For Nothing’ can be broadcast on radio if it’s substantially edited.
