Sting will release an album of new songs in September, entitled ‘The Last Ship’, accompanying the musical of the same name on which we have reported in previous articles already. The play is expected to run on Broadway in 2014. It will be released on 24 September 2013 in a collaboration with Cherrytree, Interscope and A & M Records labels.
The new album will consist of songs used in the musical and songs that did not make it for the musical.
As we reported some months ago, three songs have been distributed to music officials: The Last Ship (waltz-time folk tune, heavy with Christian imagery and told in a Northern English dialect), And Yet (jazzy funk number, sung from the point of view of a sailor arriving in his home port and wondering about a woman he left behind), Dead Mans Boots (tense dialogue between a father who works in the shipyard and a son who wants to do something else with his life).
