One of the key figures in tearing down the Iron Curtain is about to celebrate his 80th birthday at the Royal Albert Hall, at a gala concert on 30th March 2011. Gorby80, as the event is titled, will be hosted by Sharon Stone and Kevin Spacey, and begins with a video presentation honouring the Soviet leader’s life, including messages from Bill Clinton, Dimitry Medvedev, Sting and Bono. The evening marks the culmination of a six-month campaign by the Gorbachev Foundation to raise £5 million for children’s cancer charities in Britain and Russia.
