CHRISTIE’S ROCK & POP MEORABILIA, INCLUDING THE POLICE

The auction house Christie’s is holding its annual Rock & Pop Memorabilia sale in New York today, featuring some Sting and Police items. The sale is held on November 30, 2007. From the Estate of Ian Copeland, sale 1912, lot 137, three posters for The Police in concert are offered, including a silkscreen poster from a January 22nd, 1978 show at the Marquee Club in London, a 1980 tour of Japan poster and a Wembley Arena poster circa 1983. 20 x 28 in. (50.8 x 71.1 cm.) and smaller.
Estimate: $300-500.
The collection of 20 lots of posters and gold records from the Estate of Ian Copeland, the agent and promoter who represented The Police, Morrissey, R.E.M. Simple Minds, The Smiths, and responsible for launching the New Wave movement in the United States (estimates start at $300), consists mainly of posters that once resided in Copeland?s Beverly Hills café, the Backstage Door.
