Sting and band performed a warm up gig on the evening of 28th December at Barcelona’s BIKINI Club for 300 people, press and VIP’s from A&M. The show was a rehearsal for the Broken Music Tour.
The Bikini Club is set in the basement of a commercial-looking shopping center. This comprehensive and wide-ranging nightlife compound has at least two venues for dancing in every conceivable genre (including funk, indie, rock-and-roll, and golden-oldie music). There’s a separate room for Puerto Rican salsa (the owners refer to it as a “salsoteca”) and a large area where fans of emerging musical groups applaud wildly to the music of their favorite band of the minute. The action changes every night of the week, and has even been known to include sophisticated adaptations of conventional tango music. The establishment has provided a showcase for the career ambitions of dozens of youthful singers and rock-and-roll bands.
