STING DOWLAND CONCERT WAS ACTUALLY PLANNED IN 2001 – update

Copyright KASSKARA / DGThere were plans for the first ever performance in the world in Pompeii (Italy) on 24th September 2001, for Sting & Le Sorelle Lebeque, protagonists of an evening event entitled ”From Dowland to Sting”, which was to be held at the Amphitheatre, inside the Archeological Area. The concert, which amongst others would feature Giovanni Antonini and Luca Pianca from the baroque music ensemble ”Il Giardino Armonico”, was organized and promoted by ENEL as a part of its culture project ”Light for Pompeii”, set up in collaboration with the Superintendence for Archeology of Pompeii (sponsored by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities ) to promote the image and the safeguarding of the city around the world. Receipts from the evening would have been entirely devolved to the restoration of the Casa dei Pittori al Lavoro (House of the Painters to the Works), which at present is being excavated in the archaeological area.
All was cancelled after the 9/11 events.
We have a firm confirmation from the Labeque Sisters that for the time being this idea will not be revived now with the forthcoming CD of Sting.
